The Power of the Flowers: What Bach Flower Therapy at Wisdom Wellbeing Really Looks Like
"I didn't want to come today. I don't know why I'm here. I think I'll just go home."
That's how one of my clients opened a session with me. Not with a calm hello. Not with a tidy list of what she wanted to work on. Just raw, honest, and about two seconds from walking straight back out the door.
She didn't leave. I made her a cup of tea (and dropped in some Rescue Remedy of course!). She cried. Then she shouted at me! And somewhere in the middle of all that mess, we found a path through it together. She went home with her own bbespoke remedy in one of my cobalt blue bottles, hand-labelled with her name, and a stronger, clearer sense of herself than she'd arrived with. Then she wrote to me and thanked me, and wrote a lovely review!
That's Bach Flower Therapy in practice. Not calm and unhurried, whatever the 'wellness gurus' may tell you. Real, sometimes messy, and always led by whatever you bring through the door that day.
A gentle, natural way to support emotional wellbeing
The Bach system was developed in the 1930s by Dr Edward Bach, a medical doctor and bacteriologist who was far ahead of his time. He understood the deep connection between our emotions and our overall wellbeing, and believed in supporting the whole person rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis. This philosophy sits at the heart of my work at Wisdom Wellbeing.
Many people first come across the Remedies through the little yellow bottle of Rescue Remedy, often used in moments of heightened stress such as before an exam, a driving test, or any situation where nerves take over. Rescue Remedy is actually a blend of 5 single flower essences taken from a wider system of 38 individual Essences, each one linked to a particular emotional state, and it's these 38 which I work with. It's possible to create millions of unique mixes, so you know that your bespoke Bach bottle contains the remedy that's unique to you, at this time of your life.
The Remedies themselves are made from flowers, plants, and trees. They are gentle, safe, and surprisingly effective in helping to restore balance, soothe overwhelm, and uplift the spirit. One of the things that drew me to them originally was seeing how quickly and naturally my own babies responded when they were small; a reminder that belief isn't required for the Remedies to do their work.
Bach Flower Remedies focus on the emotional layer rather than the physical body. So if you're dealing with a medical concern, it's important to seek appropriate advice from your own GP. That said, the Remedies can be a wonderful companion alongside other forms of care. They won't, for example, stop migraines from occurring, but they can help ease the emotional strain that often accompanies them. Feelings such as frustration, fear of the next attack, or the sense of life being put on hold.
What a session with me actually looks like
I don't work from a script, and you don't need to arrive with one either. Some clients come in knowing exactly what's wrong. Others, like the client above, come in only knowing that something isn't right, and that's more than enough to start with.
Whatever shows up in the room, tears, laughter, frustration, anger, all of it is welcome. I'm not looking for you to perform "fine." My job is to guide you, without judgement, into understanding what's actually going on underneath, so you leave not just having been heard, but properly understood. Clearer about yourself, clearer about what you need, and with your own cobalt blue bottle, made up just for you, to take home and carry that clarity forward.
Why train with me
I'm a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner, trained at the Bach Centre in a delightful little Oxfordshire village called Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, the very place Dr Bach built his practice, and I've been practising for nearly ten years. That matters, because Bach Flower work has become popular enough that plenty of people now offer it after a weekend course or an online certificate. There's a difference between knowing what the remedies do and knowing how to really listen for what someone needs, and that only comes from proper training and years of sitting with real people in real sessions.
If you're curious
You don't need to have the words for what's wrong to book a session. You don't need to be calm, together, or "ready." You just need to be willing to show up as you are, tears, shouting, laughter and all- and see what we find.
Drop me a line if you'd like to know more, or if you're ready to book your first session.
